Marlboro Music Nurtures Three Generations of Musical Leaders

11 Apr

New York, NY, April 11, 2012: Renowned chamber music retreat, Marlboro Music, is recognized for helping to develop three generations of musical leaders. Its 62nd season begins this July in Vermont.

Marlboro Music is credited with nurturing today’s leading names in all areas of music including members of top chamber music ensembles, principals of major orchestras, faculty of prominent conservatories and music schools, and soloists at Carnegie Hall and around the world.

A young horn player who attended Marlboro Music in 1973 went on to become music critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Donald Rosenberg was among the 150 former participants and staff who returned to Marlboro during its 60th anniversary last summer — the first-ever Vermont reunion.

“I’ll never forget my experiences here, playing with fabulous colleagues, being inspired by icons of the music world, and being able to share music-making on a very equal level with everyone around me,” he reflects.

“The summer was filled with memorable rehearsals and performances, including one I played under Pablo Casals. It was the Haydn symphony Number 96 – the “Miracle” symphony. I’ll never forget it. He was 96 years old, quite feeble but also very impassioned. He talked very emotionally about music and music-making, and about Haydn and about the symphony. So that was a very special occasion. And that was Casals’ last summer also. He died three months later.”

Donald Rosenberg adds, “My (Marlboro) experience was extremely enlightening because playing chamber music on this level is rare. I think Marlboro affords the opportunity to really explore, and investigate, and share ideas, and perhaps perform the works. It’s not a given at Marlboro that you perform the pieces you rehearse but when you do, there’s a real sense of communal care and importance. Coming back to Marlboro is a very significant event in my life and I’m very grateful I’ve been able to do it.”

W.R. Borton & Associates Provide Alternative to Long-Term Care Insurance Policies

9 Apr

Marlton, NJ, April 9, 2012 – Bill Borton, founder of W.R. Borton & Associates,  wants consumers to know that long-Term Care policy premiums are on the rise and the approval process is becoming tougher as a growing number of insurers quit selling these policies.

Prudential halted the sale of individual long-term care (LTC) policies on March 30th, stating that it faces challenging economics in the market. MetLife and several other insurers have also left the LTC business in recent years.

People who have already purchased long-term care insurance are shocked to discover that their premiums are rising steeply. For example, John Hancock LTC policy premiums are rising between 40 to 90% annually, depending on your state.

The policies were sold originally as having ‘level’ premiums that would not increase based on your age or health situation. However, insurance companies miscalculated the true costs of providing this insurance, and policy owners are paying for that mistake.

There is an alternative, which is gaining some popularity. Life insurance policies where a portion of the death benefit can be accelerated to pay for LTC expenses can have guaranteed premiums, and provide a tax free benefit to the heirs if LTC is not needed. According to Bill Borton, “Valuable Long-Term Care insurance protects your assets at the same time it protects you from likely future events.”

Most consumers are not aware of the recent actions of Prudential, MetLife, and other insurers. Mr. Borton is committed to educating and informing advisors and their clients about these issues so that they can take informed action and rest assured that they will not outlive their assets.

About W.R.  Borton & Associates

Bill Borton and his associates collaborate with financial advisors to create “fail-safe” asset-protection strategies for their clients. Long term solutions are designed in alignment with the client, their advisors and market realities. Believing that all business is personal, and that no two clients are alike, they inspire trust by seeking enduring, mutually beneficial relationships and creating individualized solutions to their clients long term asset protection and insurance needs. Marlboro Music: Not Just Music, “This is Life”

7 Apr

New York, NY, April 6, 2012: Vermont’s renowned chamber music retreat, Marlboro Music, has influenced and shaped chamber music in the United States for over six decades. Its relaunched website, http://www.marlboromusic.org, contains valuable resources for musicians with chamber music repertoire, timings and much more. Former participant Timothy Eddy is founding cellist of one of the most esteemed ensembles, the Orion String Quartet. Eddy attended Marlboro Music as a young musician in 1971, 1972, 1976, and 1977. You can view his Marlboro performances on the website.

Eddy recalls, “As I think about my time at Marlboro and how it has fit into my entire life as a person, as a musician, as a cellist — it makes all kinds of sense. It’s a wonderful thing that I wound up coming to Marlboro. When I think of why I wanted to come, it’s because I wanted to be challenged, and I wanted to be inspired by my surroundings and by my colleagues. And I certainly have been. I feel incredibly fortunate that I have been able to take so much of the inspiration and awakening of passions and enthusiasms and loves in music in my life, and live them, and explore them.”

He speaks about working with passionate musicians including a remarkable musical force for generations of string players, violinist Felix Galimir. “The reason why Felix was so impatient was that music mattered so much to him. And he was trying to wake me up. He was trying to get me to understand just how important it was that things be done in a way that was truly alive and meaningful. That this is not entertainment; this is music. This is life. Felix was just trying to say, ‘Young man, get busy! Go for it.’”

Eddy concludes, “Music can capture the dimensions of life in a way that is extraordinary, and part of the sense of mission that there is at Marlboro, and that I felt so powerfully, and that I benefited from and continue to benefit from so deeply, is that people need to hear music that is really pursuing the full potential of this magical medium. We need to hear that.”

Hoffman Services Installs Quality JA Becker Heavy Duty Lifts

5 Apr

Newark, NJ, April 5, 2012: Leading heavy duty lift supplier, Hoffman Services, installs quality JA Becker lifts. These lifts have been shown to offer an excellent lifespan that represent value for money.

JA Becker Heavy Duty LiftIn one example, JA Becker installed 5 lifting units in 4-ram execution. The lifts were installed in the “End-of-Line-Vehicle-Control” and 4 lifts have been working every day since 2001. In that time, each lift has performed 270,000 lifting and lowering operations.

It shows the reliability of JA Becker lifts and the value of the product.

“We supply JA Becker lifts because they are top quality,” said Matthew Morgan of Hoffman Services. “The example of these 4 lifts performing multiple lifting and lowering operations without incident is evidence of their quality. We highly recommend them for people looking for a quality heavy duty lift.”

Hoffman Design Group Agrees with Dr. Seuss’ Lorax: Let it Grow!

4 Apr

LoraxI took my seven year old daughter and her friend to see The Lorax this weekend. We started out disappointed over the initial sell-out of the 10 am showing we wanted to attend but got our tickets for the 3 pm show instead. It was crowded. It was a little noisy. It was a great movie! Aside from the usual enjoyable adult comedy tossed into kids’ movies, there was a great message that inspired me to write this article.

The setting is a town called “Thneedville,” made entirely of plastic and artificial buildings and trees, along with bottled water and air. One of the main characters tells the story of how he was responsible for the complete devastation of all the trees in the land. Through his ambition to make it big, he cut down all the trees to make his product, the “thneed.” Only after he exhausted all living plant life did he realize his wrong doing.

This character has one final seed that he gives to a boy to plant in the middle of town. Of course, the mayor of town, who has made it rich off of selling the bottled air and water, doesn’t like this idea. The movie culminates in the town of “Thneedville” having to make a decision of whether or not to plant the seed. There is an impassioned speech about why we need trees and plants to clean our air. This speech leads to a rousing song about “Let it Grow.”

“Let it grow, let it grow, you can’t reap what you don’t sow,

Plant a seed inside the earth, just one way to know its worth,

Let’s celebrate the world’s rebirth, we say let it grow.

Let it grow, let it grow, like it did so long ago,

Maybe it’s just one tiny seed, but it’s all we really need,

It’s time to change the life we lead, time to let it grow.”

–Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

They were right in the movie….we need plant life. Not only do plants and trees provide us with oxygen and clean the air of toxins, they have several other benefits as well, particularly for businesses.

Plants can:

  • Convey cleanliness and freshness
  • Create relaxing environments and enhance sterile environments
  • Boost confidence in business well-being
  • Deaden sounds and eliminate empty echoes
  • Project an image of success
  • Be affordable “living art” sculptures
  • Hide unsightly building features or soften hard architectural lines
  • Create ambiance and coziness
  • Enhance customer care and client experiences
  • Boost employee morale by letting staff choose the plants for their space
  • Provide a warm welcome to a space and make urban streets safer

Hoffman Design Group creates environments that focus energy and unlock human potential.  Using materials like plants, trees, and flowers is one way we do this. Experts have found that people are inspired by nature. We are happier and more productive when surrounded by beautiful, natural elements. And who doesn’t want more happiness and productivity?
